West Ham United's third-choice goalkeeper Raphael Spiegel has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The former Swiss youth international replaced the outgoing Marek Stech in 2012 when moving to West Ham from Grasshoppers for an undisclosed fee.

And it was confirmed this afternoon that he has extended his existing contract - which was due to expire at the end of the current season - for another two years, with an option for an extra two years.

"I'm very happy to extend my contract here at West Ham," he told the club's website. "I worked for that and I'm enjoying the moment now.

"It's great to work with [goalkeeping coach] Chris Woods, who has been amazing. Since he came to the club I have improved so much under him. If I can carry on doing that for the next two-years I am only going to get better.

"Everyone wants to play and I want to get more game time at West Ham and show what I'm about.

"This is an exciting time for the Club and I want to stay part of the West Ham family. With goalkeepers you need to be a little bit more patient as only one can play, but I believe I can do it.

"West Ham is a very good place to be at the moment and everyone can play to their best. The manager is doing an amazing job and let's see what we can achieve this season."
