Dimitri Payet was ordered to return his entire wages for January before being allowed to return to Marseille, it has been claimed.

According to journalist Kaveh Solhekol, the former Hammers terrace idol was only allowed to complete the move once he had returned around £500,000 - the equivalent of four weeks' wages - that he'd been paid by the club during January.

Prior to going on strike midway through the month, Payet had featured in just two games against Manchester United and Manchester City - the former for 69 minutes before being replaced by Andy Carroll and then as a 58th minute substitute for Manuel Lanzini.

However West Ham were determined not to pay the player for a month in which he has barely been involved - and successfully argued that Payet, previously United's highest-earner, that he should refund the club.
