Rio Ferdinand was relatively pleased with his own performance in Turin last night, despite England going down 1-0 thanks to a second half Gennaro Gattuso wonder goal.

Ferdinand put in a solid 90 minutes in front of the watching new England coach, Sven Goran Erikson who took in the game from the stands.

Rio said: "It was good that we didn't get outplayed, but the result was very important to us, and it was disappointing to get beat.

"I could have done certain things better - I'll nit-pick, don't worry about that! But it's good that we got a decent performance behind us, especially with such a young bunch of players.

"But in reality we're not all going to play in the next game, and we know that."
