Paolo Di Canio has been congratulated by FIFA president Sepp Blatter for the 'splendid gesture' he made against Everton at the weekend.

The top man in world football has written to Di Canio saying:

"Gestures like this are all too rare in football, especially at the professional level. Your spontaneous action in the game against Everton thus deserves our special recognition and respect.

"I would like to congratulate and thank you on behalf of FIFA and all fair-minded football fans for this splendid gesture made in the true spirit of fair play, and encourage you to continue to set such positive examples for others to follow."

* Titi Camara is still yet to put pen to paper on a proposed £1.5m transfer from Liverpool.

The Guinean international (not from the Cameroon as some sources have stated) is believed to be holding out as the wage offered by West Ham falls far below the £20,000+ per week he currently earns with Liverpool.

However, the club remain confident that a deal will be tied up before the end of the week.

* The Hammers are reported to be considering a bid for Argentinian striker Martin Palermo.

27-year-old Palermo, nicknamed 'El Loco' currently plies his trade with Boca Juniors in Argentina, and is said to be interested in a move to Europe. The Hammers would be up against the likes of Valencia and Napoli who are also believed to be monitoring the situation closely.

The striker is currently valued around the £10m mark.
