Hammers striker Freddie Kanoute has told how he would never consider a move to somewhere like Liverpool or Manchester United - because it's grim up North.

Freddy, speaking to the Mirror newspaper was talking about his international chances following an impressive run of form which has seen him mature under the guidance of Harry Redknapp into one of the country's most feared finishers.

And when asked if he would ever consider a move to a club such as Man Utd or Liverpool he replied:

"I don't really like the North - it's always raining, it's really cold and I don't like all those little houses.

"It's not for me. I couldn't see myself ever playing for someone like Middlesbrough or Everton. My friend Joseph-Desire Job plays for Middlesbrough and he tells me how quiet it is. I come from the city and need to have things going on around me."

Kanoute, 23, also revealed that he feels that his international chances may be hindered by the fact that he plays for West Ham, and not one of the so-called glamour clubs.

"When you are in a big team like Manchester United or Arsenal, the selectors will see you all the time," he said. "As soon as I get into that kind of team, the selectors will decide to look at me.

"I love West Ham and I'm not saying they are not a great team. They gave me a chance in The Premiership and I love playing for them."

"But the fact is you don't tend to get noticed if you're playing for the smaller clubs. Sometimes you have to move to get noticed."
