Quickly Kevin; will he score?

Former KUMB Podcast host Chris Scull is set to launch his new project later this month.

Along with nineties football aficionado Josh Widdicombe, co-host Scull will be joined by filmmaker Michael Marden as the trio embark on a tour of niche football topics of the period 1st January 1990 to 31st December 1999.

The 11-episode first series of ’Quickly Kevin; will he score?’ begins in February and is a fortnightly exploration of football in a time when eighties attitudes and nineties Premier League money exploded into the modern game.

Each episode will highlight and feature a niche topic of nineties football; from a studio guest like Matt Le Tissier to a comedian like Ivo Graham discussing Swindon’s epic, and unforgettable, promotion push of 1993.

"If we’re living in the golden age of football, then the nineties represented something like the bronze age, or maybe even the Cambrian explosion," said Scull.

"Football, aside from fluctuations in short-length, had largely been the same in the 80 years preceding 1990. But then the serious TV money turned up and everything changed.

"In the process of that change, no one really knew how to react; and I think that’s whats really interesting to us. It was such a naive time; from the Graham Taylor documentary ‘The Impossible Job’ to Kevin Keegan ranting on Sky at Sir Alex Ferguson’s mind games.

"Then there’s the absurdity of football in general; Man Utd changing out of the grey shirts at the Dell, the weird stand at the Dell, Ali Dia at the Dell.. And that’s just the Dell. So I don’t think we’ll ever be short of fascinating topics."

Each episode will be available to stream at QuicklyKevin.com or via the iTunes podcast store.
