West Ham's Head Medic Stijn Vandenbroucke has revealed that Andy Carroll has "barely trained" in February.

Carroll, who has missed West Ham's most recent outings against Watford and West Bromwich Albion is set to return against Chelsea at the Olympic Stadium on Monday having joined the first team squad for the first time in weeks.

"Andy returned to training with the squad on Wednesday after working for the previous four days individually on the pitch," Vandenbroucke told the club's website.

"It is never ideal when a player cannot train and recover regularly. Andy has barely trained this past month, but has now returned to full training in preparation for Chelsea."

In other injury 'news', there is still no indication of when Diafra Sakho, who has missed the entire season bar two games with various ailments, is likely to play football again.

"Diafra is now entering a critical phase of his rehab as he steps up the intensity of the fitness work he is doing on the pitch," added Vandenbroucke.

It is still difficult to say how long it will be until Diaf is ready to return to action, as this depends very much on how his body responds to the increasing level of physical work on the pitch. "
