Wenger: West Ham were 'on holiday'

Arsene Wenger has accused West Ham of "going on holiday" after they were thrashed 4-0 at home by Liverpool on Sunday.

The Arsenal boss was relying on West Ham to get a result against Jurgen Klopp's side in order to boost his own club's chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Following the Reds' victory at the Olympic Stadium, Liverpool are now clear favourites to oust Arsenal from the top four - much to the chagrin of the under-fire Wenger, for whom failing to qualify for the Champions League could ultimately cost him his job.

When asked to comment on West Ham's crushing defeat, Wenger replied: "Some teams turn up, some go on holiday.

"You want your team to do well, to focus until the last, to be professional and do your job properly until the last second of the season. It's vital, just so you can look in the mirror and say we did it properly.

"But it looks, at the end of the season, [as if] many teams who have been assured to stay in the league have just released their focus."

Arsenal are currently fifth in the table with 69 points from 36 games, three points behind Manchester City and four behind Liverpool, on whom they have a game in hand.
