Put that wi-fi on hold - Vodafone pull out of OS deal

Vodafone are understood to have pulled out of the race to sponsor the Olympic Stadium.

The communications giant had been expected to sign a six-year rights deal with the stadium owners this summer. However it was revealed this morning that talks have broken down.

Quite why Vodafone have decided to opt out of the project is yet to be determined, although rumours that last month's Olympic Stadium bust by tax inspectors caused a rethink are said to be wide of the mark.

The deal was purported to be worth in the region of 20milion over six years, of which West Ham wouldn't have seen a single penny due to their arrangement with the LLDC which states that the club receive 50 per cent of any deal worth in excess of 4million per annum.

Vodafone are the second major firm to pull out of a potential naming rights deal for the OS, following Mahindra's about turn in 2016. You can see how the Vodafone deal would have compared to the rest of the Premier League here.
