Pedro's a family man

Pedro Obiang has been rewarded for an excellent 2016/17 campaign with an extended contract.

The former Spanish Under 21 international signed a four year contract upon joining West Ham in the summer of 2015, tying him to the club until 2019.

However Obiang has now extended his stay until 2022 after being rewarded with a bumper new deal for his excellent form prior to sustaining a season-ending injury against Leicester in March.

"Iím very happy. Itís normal for you sign a new deal because you did something good in the club and this is the time to sign," he told whufc.com.

"Over the next five years we can achieve many, many things but we are going to start from today. Of course, I trust the club and the situation and I know I am in a very good team.

ďI have a lot of teammates here and I talked to Manu [Lanzini], Adrian and Angelo [Ogbonna] over the summer when we were on holidays.

"Thatís maybe a little bit of the reason I signed a new contract, because I prefer to be here than in another place because I feel like part of a family here."

Prior to sustaining his injury, Obinag made 30 appearances for West Ham during the 2016/17 campaign, scoring once and receiving eight bookings - the same number of appearances he made during his first season at the club.
