In comparison: Arnautovic versus

West Ham remain hot favourites to sign Stoke City wide man Marko Arnautovic, having submitted a third bid in the last 24 hours.

So we thought we'd ask our pals at kickoff.co.uk to provide some statistical analysis comparing the records of Arnautovic, 28, with West Ham wide man Andre Ayew (a year younger at 27) and striker Andy Carroll, also 28.

As you can see from our 'Head to Head' graphic above, Arnautovic and Ayew both scored six times last season - although the Hammer played far fewer minutes compared than the Austrian. Hence Ayew averaged a goal every 241 minutes to Arnautovic's one every 465 minutes.

And oddly perhaps, given their size difference, Ayew at 5'10" managed to score twice with his head - whilst all of 6'4" Arnautovic's goals were scored with his feet!

Ayew's goalscoring record is remarkably similar to that of striker Andy Carroll, whose statistics we also include here for comparison purposes - even though Arnautovic has rarely played as an out-an-out striker.

Arnautovic has spent the last four seasons at Stoke since sealing what now looks like a bargain £2million move from Werder Bremen.

And as you can see from the following graphics, his form and number of appearances has remained remarkably consistent during his spell at the Brittannia Stadium - whilst he has averaged around one goal and one assist every five games.

However his involvement in the Stoke team has proved to be invaluable (see below); with Arnautovic in the team last season, the Potters managed a win percentage of 31 per cent - compared to just 17 per cent in the six matches he was unavailable for.
