Hernandez deal two years in the making, says Sullivan

David Sullivan was a special guest on Talksport this morning as he discussed the club's recent arrivals.

West Ham's United's co-chairman took to the airwaves this morning in order to chat about the club's summer signings such as Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart and Marko Arnautovic.

However it was the club's most recent acquisition, Javier Hernandez - a player the club had been trying to sign since 2015 - that Sullivan appeared to be most pleased about signing.

"I think in recent years he's potentially the best player who's come to the club," suggested Sullivan. "He's probably the most proven goalscorer we've signed since we've been at the club.

"He's done it in the Premier League at Manchester United scoring a goal every two-and-a-half games. We were lucky he had only one year to go with his [former] club. That allowed us to negotiate a deal.

"We tried to get him two years ago but unfortunately he chose the German club ahead of us. Again, it's a deal that's been going on all summer."

Sullivan also reacted to concerns that the club's last six signings have all been 28 or over. "Long term it's not such a great strategy," he admitted, "but short-term it probably is.
