Bilic gets his man - after two years

Slaven Bilic has admitted he was delighted to secure the signature of Javier Hernandez - thus ending a two-year hunt for the striker.

KUMB revealed two summers ago, shortly after Bilic had been installed as Sam Allardyce's successor, that Hernandez was top of the manager's hit-list - although he refused, on that occasion, to confirm his interest.

But having finally persuaded Hernandez to put pen to paper, Bilic was happy to confirm he had indeed been chasing ther striker for nearly two years. "I am happy that the deal is complete as itís a great signing for us," Bilic told whufc.com.

"I spoke to him a couple of seasons ago when I joined West Ham, when he was at Manchester United and they wanted to sell him. I wanted him but he opted for Leverkusen.

"We have had a good relationship since then. So when the opportunity comes now after the season and I found out he could be available, I called him and he was happy straight away.

"From two years ago until now we had the same conversation, so it helped, of course. There were a few other clubs interested but we are delighted he opted for us."
