Bywater back in business

Filed: Sunday, 6th August 2017

Kieran Bywater, who was ousted from West Ham two years ago has been voted Player of the Year by his new club.

Now playing for Chattanooga FC in the National Premier Soccer League, the 21-year-old was voted as Supporter's Choice Player of the Year by fans of the fourth tier club with 37 per cent of the votes following a productive season at the Finlay Stadium in Tennessee.

"Great to win player of the year," wrote on his twitter time line. "Thanks to everyone who voted. Excited to start the college season this month."

Back in 2015 Kieran's father Simon wrote a scathing expose of life behind the scenes at West Ham's Academy, from which the Manchester-born midfielder was unceremoniously dumped after informing Director Terry Westley that he had acquired a new agent.

Just 19 at the time, Bywater had spent ten years of his life commuting to Chadwell Heath from the family home some 75 miles away before being told he was no longer wanted by West Ham. However just two years later, he has completely rebuilt his career in the United States.

Chattanooga and Bywater ended their latest campaign third in the Southeast Conference Division, just one point behind runners-up Knoxville Force. You may hear Simon and Kieran Bywater speak about their experience as part of West Ham's Academy here.
