Hammers face Cup compo claim

West Ham have confirmed that they have asked for the club's second round Carabao Cup tie be played away from home.

Having already requested that the first three Premier League games of the 2017/18 campaign be played away from home as a result of the World Athletics Championships taking place at the Olympic Stadium, it has now been confirmed that the club have asked for another fixture to be changed.

And it has also been revealed that West Ham will have to pay compensation to the opposing club, should the Hammers be drawn first from the hat.

"In the event that West Ham United are drawn at home in Round Two of the Carabao Cup then they will be given special dispensation by the EFL Board to play the fixture at the opposition’s venue," read a statement on the club's website.

"If the draw dictates this is required, then the EFL Board will determine a level of compensation to be paid by West Ham to the opposing club."

With West Ham being forced to play away from home on Boxing Day too, as a result of a request from Westfield Stratford, fans have naturally called into question vice Chair Karren Brady's pre-move promise that West Ham matches would always take precedence over other events being staged at the stadium.
