UK Athletics chief Ed Warner believes the Olympic Stadium should be included in the UK's 2022 Commonwealth Games bid.

The Hammers have been forced to play their first four matches of the season away as a result of the Athletics World Championships being staged at the Stratford arena.

But if Warner gets his way, Hammers fans could be braced for another lock-out in five years' time - despite Vice Chair Karren Brady's previous insistance that the club has the power of veto over any other events taking place at the stadium during the football season.

"If I was leader of the Liverpool or Birmingham bid I would be ringing Sadiq Khan and say 'you know what, can we have the athletics in London and we will do everything else?" Warner told the BBC.

"I spoke to a civil servant, who is heavily involved in the Commonwealth Games bid. He said he was going to be 'be rinsing the treasury for half a billion pounds to put on an English Commonwealth Games.'

"My answer is, save a load of money, use this amazing facility, which is the best in the world and make it an English bid."
