Emails are 'misleading', says Sporting chief

Portuguese club Sporting have threatened to report West Ham United to FIFA for making an illegal approach to William Carvalho.

The latest twist in an extraordinary saga has left West Ham potentially facing sactions from the game's ruling body after Sporting's comms director Nuno Saraiva insisted that he would be filing a complaint.

Leaked emails, published on SkySports last night appeared to show that West Ham had made a 25million bid for the 40million-rated Carvalho on 11 August - payable in three instalments.

But they appear have made little difference to Sporting who have since questioned the veracity of the emails - which Saraiva referred to as "misleading" - and confirmed they intend to pursue the matter with FIFA.

"There are circulating some misleading emails intended to prove the pseudo-narrative of Mr. David Sullivan of West Ham," he told ojogo.pt. "Why were the recipients of this so-called electronic mail hidden? And where are the delivery receipts that the alleged emails have come to Sporting CP?

"The West Ham supporters themselves attribute little credibility to this alleged correspondence.

"Sporting will file a complaint with FIFA against West Ham for grooming a player, which violates all regulations, and will require full disclosure of these alleged emails that, if true, were never sent to Sporting CP. "
