Transfer window to close before season starts

Filed: Thursday, 7th September 2017
By: Staff Writer

The 2018/19 campaign will herald the introduction of a new transfer window - which will close BEFORE the season begins.

From next summer, the Premier League transfer window for buying players will close at 5pm on the Thursday before the first Saturday of the new season - which next year starts on 11 August.

However top flight sides will still be able to SELL players until the regular European deadline - usually 31 August.

Hary Redknapp has become a familiar part of transfer deadline day

The changes will not affect the Football League, although the ruling body have already admittted that they will poll their own members before deciding whether or not to follow suite.

It is unclear at this stage how many Premier League clubs voted to change the rules, but for any motion to be carried at least 14 of the 20 member clubs must be in support.
