Carroll frustrated by empty stands

Andy Carroll has expressed his disappointment regarding the number of supporters who who leave games in Stratford early.

Once again the Olympic Stadium was barely a third full by the time Neil Swarbrick had blown the final whistle at the end of Saturday's match, which Carroll and Co. lost 4-1.

However the former England striker - who, with three months of the season gone is yet to score a single goal - believes the mass exodus is detrimental to the team's chances of getting back into a game.

"They really should be staying," he said. "They should stay until the end.

"You never know whatís going to happen. They walked out at half-time against Tottenham when we were getting beaten 2-0 and we turned it round.

"Look at Crystal Palace fans last week. Look what happened in the 97th minute. Fans should stay until the end, regardless of the team.

"Obviously, it frustrates you. You donít think about it during the game. But when you see the game back and you see the fans leaving, they shouldnít really be leaving.

"They should be supporting us no matter what. We should be playing better - itís us to blame. But they should be helping us out a bit."

The sight of a near-empty stadium has been a familiar sight for a losing West Ham team since moving to E20 last summer.

However that statistic hasn't been helped by the team's dreadful first half form since moving from the club's Boleyn Ground home; West Ham have led just TWICE in Premier League outings at half time since landing in Stratford.
