Merson unsure on unpredictable Hammers

Former Arsenal star and TV pundit Paul Merson believes West Ham can potentially upset the apple cart for a second time inside a week.

Having beaten reigning champions Chelsea at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday lunchtime, Merson warned that David Moyes's side could repeat that feat by knocking the Gunners off their perch tomorrow night, when the two sides meet in the first of two encounters this month.

However he still backed his former side to come out on top - due to West Ham's 'obscene' effort in beating Antonio Conte's side. "West Ham are a bag of Revels," he said. "I watched them play at Everton, and they were absolutely slaughtered.

"They were so poor. They then could have got a result at Man City - and then they beat Chelsea.

"I still think Arsenal will win this, because Arsenal do have joy at West Ham. And they put so much into that win over Chelsea they might not have much left in the tank."

Arsenal, who failed to qualify for the Champions League last season go into the game fifth in the table, but in mixed form.

A 6-0 Europa League win against Bate Borisov last week was sandwiched between a draw and Southampton and a home defeat against Manchester United - although Arsene Wenger's side enjoyed a run of four straight wins prior to that disappointment.
