West Ham's Iain Dowie scored what became the club's most infamous own goal ever.

Featuring for Harry Redknapp's side at Edgeley Park in a 4th round Carling Cup replay, Dowie rose like a salmon at the far post to score a beautiful header, leaving the 'keeper no chance.

The only problem being that the goalkeeper in question was West Ham's Ludo Miklosko - and the header was firmly planted into Dowie's own net.

The game itself had got of to a decent start for the Hammers, who took a 22nd minute lead against the (old) Division 2 side - who had already beaten reigning Premiership champions Blackburn Rovers in the 3rd round - via Julian Dicks' header from a corner.

However less than 60 seconds later, Dowie appeared out of nowhere to score what is still widely considered to be one of the best (or should that be worst?) own goals ever captured by TV cameras.

Worse was to follow for the Hammers however, as former Southend Utd striker Brett Angell scored a second for Stockport four minutes later; a goal that proved to be the winner, as the Hammers were sent crashing out of the competition.

As for County, their run eventually took them all the way to the semi finals where they lost 2-1 on aggregate to another Premiership side, Middlesbrough.

You may see highlights of the entire game here.
