West Ham have seen an opening bid for Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter rejected, according to reports.

The 27-year-old was the subject of an £8million bid from the Hammers who are desperately seeking to strengthen in central midfield ahead of the second half of the season.

However they will have to up their bid considerably if they are to land the Sidcup-born, Irish international midfielder who had spent the last seven years at Dean Court, after their opening offer was turned down.

Arter has been in and out of Eddie Howe's first team this season, having made 11 Premier League appearances for the Cherries in 2017/18 plus two more in the Carabao Cup.

It is thought that West Ham will have to offer closer to £15million for the 5'9" midfielder - who signed a new four-year contract last summer - in order to receive a more favourable response from Bournemouth.
