10million Arsenal star on the radar

West Ham are ready to swoop for Arsenal defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin - if they are unable to complete deals for any of their favoured targets.

The Hammers have been keen to tie up a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, since when the club have also made enquiries regarding Anderlecht's Leander Dendoncker.

However should neither of those deals go ahead West Ham are considering a move for the uncapped French midfielder, who has been made surplus to requirements by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger despite having another three years of his current contract left to run.

The 26-year-old was missing from the Arsenal squad beaten 4-2 by Championship side Nottingham Forest in yesterday's FA Cup third round tie, lending weight to suggestions that he is on his way out of Arsenal.

The Gunners would be seeking a fee in the region of 10million for Coquelin, who has spent the last nine seasons at Arsenal having signed for the north London club as a teenager.
