Martin Samuelsen says he is looking forward to playing first team football once again after agreeing to join Championship strugglers Burton Albion on loan for the rest of the current season.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder, who was in David Moyes' squad on Tuesday's for the FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town will spend the rest of the campaign with the Brewers after making the switch late on Wednesday.

And the Norwegian international, who has featured just twice as a substitute for West Ham's first team since moving from Manchester City three-and-a-half years ago is determined to enjoy his spell at Eton Park under Nigel Clough.

"I’m delighted to be here, and I can’t wait to get out playing," he said. "I’m an attacking player, I like to score and assist goals and do the hard work. It will be a really good learning curve. Every player wants to play and I’m going to do my best when I get the chance and train hard.

"All the players seem to be really nice and I know some of them from before, so it has all been good so far. Integration is a huge thing as you need to get on with your teammates in order to play well for them. Off the pitch is as important as on the pitch.

"The manager asked me if I thought I could come and play in this team; I saw the [last] game and thought this was something I could do. It’s an honest bunch of lads and I want to be part of that."

Meanwhile Clough, 51, insisted that he is looking forward to Samuelsen expressing his creative side when pulling on a Brewers' shirt - hopefully for the first time at Fulham this weekend.

"He’s very comfortable on the ball and his main strength is his creativity," he said. "He will go straight into the squad for Saturday. We have brought him in to be involved. He was on the bench for West Ham and now he wants to come out and play some football."
