No chance of Ki joining West Ham, says Jenkins

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins says there was never any chance of Ki Sung-yeung joining West Ham.

The South Korean midfielder was linked with a move to East London as part of the 18million deal that will see Andre Ayew return to former club Swansea City.

However Jenkins told Sky Sports this afternoon that any such agreement with West Ham was never likely to materialise, despite United's interest. "There was no chance of that happening as we want to keep our squad together, "said Jenkins.

And with regards to the impending sale of Ayew, who spent less than 18 months at West Ham following his 20million arrival in 2016, Jenkins revealed the deal had been on the table for some considerable time.

"We've just been waiting for west ham to give us the green light to compete the deal," he said. "We don't see it as a gamble. Obviously it's a big fee for us as a club, but transfer values have changed considerably over the past couple of years.

"We feel it's a good deal for everyone and we're all looking forward to Andre reuniting with his brother [Jordan] and forging a great partnership for us."

Ayew is reported to be currently undergoing a medical ahead of certifying his return to Swansea.
