Henry facing accusations of discrimination

Filed: Wednesday, 31st January 2018
By: Staff Writer

West Ham United's Director of Player Recruitment Tony Henry has been accused of pursuing a club policy not to sign 'African players'.

According to an article by Matt Lawton, published minutes before the end of the January transfer window on Wednesday evening, Henry admitted that the agenda was being followed with the full knowledge of what the report referred to as "club management".

Chiefly responsible for the policy, according to Henry's revelations was the club's poor relationship with Senegal international Diafra Sakho who joined Rennes this week in a cut-price deal.

"We had problems with Sakho," he is reported to have said. "We find that when they are not in the team they cause mayhem. Itís nothing against the African race at all. Itís just sometimes they cause a lot of problems when they are not playing, as we had with Diafra."

West Ham United replied to a request for a statement from the Mail by refusing to comment further on the specific allegations until such time as an internal investigation had been carried out.

"We take any allegations of discrimination extremely seriously," said the club's response, "and are now in the process of ascertaining the full facts behind this accusation". To read the full story, visit the Mail Online.
