Despite interest from fellow Premier League side Everton, the former French international - who previously worked alongside West Ham boss David Moyes at Manchester Utd and completed a medical yesterday - is poised to add to West Ham's growing list of over 30s - just a matter of months after he thought he professional career was over.

Evra has been without a club since leaving Marseille last November following an altercation with a supporter which left him facing a UEFA ban (see video below).

The defender, who later claimed he was being ridiculed by the supporter, received a season-long ban for kicking a supporter in the head prior to a Europa League game with Vitoria Guimaraes.

Within a week of the incident he was effective sacked by Marseille, who terminated his 18-month contract that had initially been signing in January 2017.

West Ham's ageing squad: the 30 and overs

Patrice Evra, 36
James Collins, 34
Jose Fonte, 34
Pablo Zabaleta, 33
Adrian, 30
Joe Hart, 30
Mark Noble, 30

30 this year: Angelo Ogbonna, Javier Hernandez, Winston Reid.
