Hammers down in Euro index

West Ham have dropped five places in the latest Euro Club Index to one of their lowest positions since moving to Stratford.

The ECI, which has been operating since 2007 ranks teams in Europe's top divisions in order to determine who is the most efficient, taking results from league, Cup and European matches into account before determining positions.

And in the latest Index, West Ham United have fallen five places to 83rd - dropping below the likes of La Liga's Getafe (up 17 places to 79th), the Bundesliga's Stuttgart (up to 76th) and Israel's Hapoel Beer Sheva.

West Ham performance on the ECI index post Upton Park

The Hammers began the season 74th in the continent-wide Index (see image above), before rising as high as 61st in January during the middle of a seven-match unbeaten run (in all competitions).

However the team's erratic form in 2018, since that unbeaten run has seen David Moyes' side slip to their second lowest point of the season - marginally better than the 86th place West Ham held towards the end of March.

The highest position West Ham have ever held on the ECI - 49th - was recorded in May 2016, the final month at the Boleyn Ground. The lowest position - 142nd - was recorded shortly after the club were relegated from the Premier League, in June 2011, a year after the current owners purchased the club.
