The 25-year-old defender served a six month ban last season after being successfully charged with match fixing alongside fellow players Luca Pini and Francesco Millesi, after his links with the Camorra crime syndicate were exposed.

Yet prior to his ban - which was reduced from 18 to six months upon appeal - Izzo was considered to be one of Italy's best up-and-coming defenders, with the Naples-born stopper being courted by some of the nation's leading clubs.

Izzo, who can also operate at right back was called up to the national squad for the first time last November but is yet to feature for his country at full international level.

The Brazilian midfielder has been linked with a move to West Brom since last summer but various sources are claiming today (Wednesday) that the Hammers are the latest club to see their interest scuppered.
