I'm staying Irish, says Rice

Declan Rice has laughed off suggestions that he could yet turn his back on Ireland in order to represent England at full international level.

West Ham United co-owner David Gold claimed last month that the youngster could go on to represent England at international level, despite Rice having already appeared in a full international for Ireland (albeit a friendly).

However the teeenager tactfully brushed aside Gold's suggestion, insisted that he intends to remain part of the Irish squad. "I just have to stay focused and play football with a smile on my face," he told the Daily Mail.

"I don't read too much into things and look at social media.

"It was on the radio and it's just one of those things, I wont take too much from it. He [Gold] can say that, that's his opinion, but I'm here playing for Ireland and that's all I can do."

However the youngster was far more receptive to suggestions that he could perhaps one day captain West Ham.

"Maybe one day I do see myself as future captain because I have got it within me to tell people what to do and order them around," he mused.
