West Ham United will face FC Winterthur of Switzerland in a pre-season friendly next month, it has been confirmed.

The Hammers are set to face the Swiss Challenge League (second tier) side on Sunday, 8 July at a neutral venue (to be confirmed) on the first leg of their pre-season tour.

And the club are set to announce additional dates for the European tour imminently, which is planned to include at least two more fixtures.

United's forthcoming opponents - who are based in in Winterthur, close to the border with Germany - were formed in 1896. The club play their home matches in the Schützenwiese Stadium, which has a capacity of 8,550.

The Schützenwiese

The team consists largely of home-grown players, but Hammers fans will be familiar with 25-year-old goalkeeper Raphael Spiegel, who joined Winterthur on a two-year contract last month.

Managed by former Liechtenstein national team head coach Ralph Loose, who replaced Livio Bordoli last month, the three-times Super League winners finished ninth in last season's Challenge League campaign. We'll have ticket details for this game and subsequent tour matches shortly.
