West Ham United's first team returned to pre-season training this morning following their brief summer break.

And, for the first time since he was announced as the club's new manager, Manuel Pellegrini got to meet the majority of his squad at Rush Green ahead of their first session of pre-season.

Pellegrini, who announced his new back room squad at the weekend had barely said hello to his new charges before they set off for their Swiss training camp on Monday lunchtime.

The travelling squad was boosted by several Academy stars including midfielder Marcus Browne, England Under 16 goalkeeper Daniel Jinadu and central defender Reece Oxford, who recently returned from his loan spell in Germany.

The Hammers will be spending the next 12 days in Switzerland preparing for the forthcoming 2018/19 campaign, where they will face their first opponent of pre-season in the shape of FC Winterthur, a Swiss second division side.

That game is scheduled to take place on Sunday 8 July, the first of five fixtures currently programmes for July and August. Upon returning to the UK, West Ham are currently set to face the following:

14 July: Wycombe Wanderers (Adams Park)
21 July: Preston North End (Deepdale)
25 July: Aston Villa (Bescot Stadium)
28 July: Ipswich Town (Portman Road)

And the new Premier League season is due to commence on Saturday, 11 August when Pellegrini and his charges face a trip to Anfield to face Champions League finalists Liverpool.

Meanwhile, those players who have been participating in the World Cup Finals have been excused duty in order to allow them extra recovery time.

That includes Javier Hernandez, Lukasz Fabianski and Cheikhou Kouyate, who will all return to Rush Green later this month. The current KUMB.com Player of the Year, Marko Arnautovic, will team up with the rest of the squad in Switzerland next week.
