It looks like a Villa badge! Fans question new sponsor

West Ham fans have questioned whether the logo of new sponsor Basset & Gold should have such a prominent place on West Ham's new shirt - because it closely resembles the Aston Villa crest.

West Ham revealed today that the financial services company had agreed a deal to become United's new sleeve sponsor, taking over from MRF Tyres.

However several supporters have highlighted a distinct likeness between the company logo and the Championship club's crest - as you can see below.

Perhaps rather more concerning however is that other supporters have seen something far more insidious in the new logo - by likening it to the MILLWALL crest, which also features a lion (albeit one quite different in design)!

Here are some of the comments in relation to the new sponsor's logo, as aired on social media...

Hailing the new partnership, vice chair Karen Brady welcomed Barret & Gold to the club.

"I am delighted to announce our partnership with Basset & Gold and I am extremely excited about working together going forward," she told whufc.com.

"What really appealed to us was their commitment to working and engaging with our fans in east London and the local community.

"Our fans are at the heart of everything we do and we wanted to partner with someone who understands that and mirrors that commitment in their own work.

"Both partners are determined to achieve success next season and we cannot wait to launch our partnership through some incredible activations for our fans."
