West Ham United have finally won the Betway Cup for the first time - at the FOURTH attempt.

Goalkeeper Adrian was a happy man as he collected the trophy for West Ham at the fourth time of asking, following previous defeats against Juventus and Werder Bremen (twice).

However it took a penalty shootout to seperate the two teams after Toni Martinez's 70th minute, close-range header was nullified by Swedish midfielder Robin Quaison's equaliser ten minutes later.

Arthur Masuaku was first up in the shootout, only to see his spot kick rebound off the right-hand post. Fortunately Mainz's Argentinian midfielder Pablo de Blasis couldn't beat Adrian, and the scores remained level.

That was to be West Ham's only missed kick of the shootout, with Robert Snodgrass, Toni Martinez, Pedro Obiang, Marko Arnautovic, Josh Cullen, Adrian and Issa Diop all converting their efforts.

Meanwhile Mainz were looking equally effective from the spot following de Blasis' miss, until the 16th spot kick of the shootout which GaŽtan Bussmann fired wildly over the bar to give West Ham the win.
