A letter from Ron Greenwood to Shamrock Rovers FC has been put up for auction on eBay.

The letter, in which the legendary West Ham manager accepts an invitation to play the Irish club in a pre-season friendly is currently available on the popular auction site, priced at £50.

Written in May 1967, following the end of a disappointing campaign for West Ham in which they finished 17th in Division One, Greenwood recalls a previous visit to Dublin and promises to bring the club's "three World Cup players subject to injuries etc."

However he had to reject Rovers' presumably earlier request for FA Cup Final tickets, which Greenwood describes as being "like gold dust" in London. That year's all-London Final was won by Tottenham, who beat Chelsea 2-1.

The letter, which you may see below is addressed to a 'J.Murphy Esq' and will remain under auction until Sunday, 9 August. Interested parties may place a bid here.
