Pulis hopeful on Hugill

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis is hopeful of completing the signing of West Ham striker Jordan Hugill ahead of the transfer deadline.

Pulis, who has been in charge of the Championship side since Boxnig Day last year has been chasing the former Preston striker for several weeks, although 'Boro are yet to launch an official bid for the 26-year-old.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Pulis refused to admit that he was keen on signing Hugill, who only joined West Ham six months ago in an 8million switch from 'Boro's Championship rivals Preston North End, but revealed that contact had been made.

"I've spoken about players that are with us," he said. "Hugill is West Ham's player and I think it's not my place to discuss that. That will be done between the two clubs, out of respect."

* In other transfer news, West Ham remain confident that they can push through a deal for free agent Bernard, according to the Mail's Lee Clayton.

The Brazilian winger, who is available on a free transfer having come to the end of his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk had looked set to snub United's offer in favour of a move to China but West Ham have reignited their interest in the last 48 hours.
