Ginge set for shock recall?

Filed: Thursday, 23rd August 2018

James Collins could be in for a shock recall after it was revealed that West Ham are considering offering a new contract to the veteran central defender.

Despite spending more than 30million during the summer boosting the defence, West Ham have conceded six goals in their opening two Premier League matches of the season.

And that, according to an article in one of today's tabloids had led Manuel Pellegrini to consider re-signing the free agent, whose previous contract expired at the end of last season and who has also been offered a contract by Championship side Bristol City.

The new manager has so far chosen to use a central defensive partnership of Angelo Ogbonna and new signing Fabian Balbuena, whilst fellow summer arrival Issa Diop - a 22million capture from Toulouse - is yet to taste any Premier League action.

Meanwhile Collins - despite being out of contract since the end of June - has continued to train with West Ham's first team.

There is of course a precedent for West Ham performing a similar move, when Carlton Cole was offered a new deal a matter of months after his previous contract expired in 2013.
