Fresh attempts by West Ham to secure teenage international Declan Rice on a long-term contract are yet to prove fruitful.

However the club remain optimistic that a successful conclusion to suit all parties can soon be reached.

The 19-year-old is still earning an annual salary more befitting of an Academy player, despite having become a regular member of first team squads under both David Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini.

And following months of speculation but no real developments, West Ham are understood to have offered Rice an improved basic wage plus appearance fee - reported to be worth in the region of 35,000 per week.

Rice's representatives, who KUMB's Paul Walker revealed are led by Neil Fewings of the internationally-renowned WMG Agency are instead demanding a guaranteed 30,000, non-performance related wage, according to The Mirror.

There was an indication that something was in the pipeline regarding Rice's contractual situation on Tuesday when the club's website published an article in which Pablo Zabaleta praised his young team mate, who is some 14 years his junior, effusively.

And although a deal remains some way yet from being struck, news of renewed talks has pleased Hammers fans who are anxious to see one of the club's brightest young prospects pledge his future to West Ham United for many more years to come.
