Declan Rice has once again been omitted from the Republic of Ireland squad for the forthcoming Uefa Nations League matches against Denmark and Wales.

The 19-year-old Hammer has not appeared for the Irish since it was revealed that he was considering switching loyalties to England, having yet to make a competitive appearance for the Republic.

And Rice - who is also yet to sign a new contract with West Ham - has been frozen out once more by Martin O'Neill as he continues to consider his future.

Manuel Pellegrini, speaking about the young midfielder during his press conference on Thursday lunchtime insisted that he should be given space and time to make a decision on his international future.

I am always talking with all the players, with Declan also," he said. "He's a young player and maybe we need to give him time to make a difficult decision which is not easy, especially when you have both sides - England and Ireland - so close to your family.

"We must not pressure him about his contract or for which country he will play. He needs time and for me he is in the correct way."

Whilst Rice is missing, O'Neill's latest squad includes two former Hammers in Middlesbrough 'keeper Darren Randolph and Preston North End's Sean Maguire.
