April return for Yarmo, say Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini says that Andriy Yarmolenko should return to first team action before the end of the season.

The Ukrainian international suffered a freak ankle injury during last weekend's Premier League encounter with Tottenham and, as revealed on KUMB, was initially thought likely to be sidelined for the entire season.

However according to Pellegrini, the 29-year-old could yet return in time for the final few weeks of the campaign. "Yarmolenko has had surgery and he will be out for around five months," he said.

"Itís very disappointing. Heís an important player for us. Heís one of the players who arrived this season, so we could have more technical players.

"We also have Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere out so the three players in the same position are out. Itís a real pity and itís really difficult for the team.

"Itís difficult when you have so many important players that you know are out because of long injuries. But I always say the same thing: we have a squad, not a team.

ďNow is the moment for another player who maybe didnít have the chance before to take the chance now. I hope we will continue being a competitive team."

And whilst there was no fresh information regarding return dates for either Lanzini or Wilshere, there was at least some positive news regarding the status of Andy Carroll, who is yet to feature this season.

"Andy Carroll is working with the squad and working with the physio in the gym at other times," Pellegrini added.

"He is improving. I hope that [he'll play] after the international break, to be 100 per cent sure. Maybe it will be the last game before the international break."

Meanwhile Pedro Obiang, who was a mysterious absence from the squad that faced Tottenham, will miss out again this weekend when the Hammers face Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

ďPedro had a small calf injury last week," confirmed Pellegrini. "Itís not serious, but he needs some days more to recover. I hope he will be ready for Wednesday for the Carabao Cup game."
