FA intervene following night of shame

Filed: Thursday, 1st November 2018

The Football Association have asked West Ham United for their observations on last night's Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham.

On another shameful evening in Stratford the tie between West Ham and Tottenham was marred by pitch invasions, numerous outbreaks of violence - both inside and outside the stadium - plus various other incidents, leading to a total of nine arrests.

And as a result, the FA - who are yet to decide on West Ham's punishment for the pitch invasion that took place against Burnley back in March of this year - have asked the club to explain yet another embarrassing night for the football club.

Ten people were arrested last night either in or close by the stadium; two for entering the field of play, two for race-related offences, four for public order offences, one for affray and another for possession of drugs.

And two more arrests this morning - for affray and pitch incursion - took the total number of arrests to 12.

Besides those arrested there were numerous other incidents inside the stadium - one of which involved a male, who had attended the game with his son, punching an elderly woman who was sitting immediately behind him.

And there was yet more condemnation for the stadium stewards, who failed to identify several Tottenham supporters sitting in the stands designated for West Ham supporters whilst proving unable, once again, to protect innocent supporters or prevent some determined fans from entering the field of play.
