Diangana makes the grade

West Ham youngster Grady Diangana has capped a whirlwind month by being called up to England's Under 20s for the first time ever.

The 20-year-old Hammer has been a revelation since landing his first Premier League start against Leicester at the end of October and has been duly awarded with his first call-up to Paul Simpson's squad.

And not only does it represent his first call-up to the 20s, but it is the first occasion on which Diangana has been named in any England squad.

The Congolese-born youngster is set to face Germany at Colchester United's Jobserve Community Stadium next Monday, 19 November. He will be joined by fellow Hammer Nathan Trott, West Ham's current third-choice goalkeeper.

Simpson's Under 20s have been enjoying a purple patch of late, having suffered just one defeat in their last - against forthcoming opponents Germany a year ago this month.

England are also the reigning holders of the Under 20 World Cup, which they won in South Korea last summer courtesy of a 1-0 win over Venezuela - the country's first ever success at that level.
