West Ham's youngsters fell to a 2-0 defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the latest round of Premier League International Cup fixtures.

Having opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Porto hopes were high that Liam Manning's youngstres could repeat that success against the Croatians at Dagenham and Redbridge's Victoria Road ground.

However a brace from Zagreb's Bojan Knezevic - with one goal either side of the half time interval - condemned West Ham to their first defeat in this year's competition on Tuesday night.

"We had the greater shared of possession and controlled the game," Manning told West Ham's website.

"First half we created some chances, probably not enough in the second half and we maybe lacked some discipline, but itís part of our learning when you play teams like that.

"They make it hard for you to break them down and to create anything. What you definitely donít do is to then go and hand it to them on a plate, which we did.

"There were positives though; Moses [Makasi] was excellent again - he led by example and showed real discipline. Ben Johnson was a lot better as well, so there were positives to take."

The defeat leaves West Ham third in the four-team Group A, level on points with second-placed Zagreb who were recently beaten 1-0 by group leaders Southampton.

The Premier League International Cup is a competition for European-based Under 23 teams.

It was introduced in 2014 to provide players in Category One English Academies with an opportunity to play against other elite European footballers from their age group in a competitive environment.
