Manuel Pellegrini says he is still hopeful of cutting a deal that will see Samir Nasri become a West Ham player.

The 31-year-old is currently training with the first team squad at Rush Green despite no agreement having yet been reached between West Ham and Nasri's representatives.

However Pellegrini admitted this morning that he is still hoping to secure Nasri's signature. When asked about the situation during a press conference on Thursday, Pellegrini replied: "We will see about Samir."

"He is working with us after a long time with his ban. We are giving him a hand to return to football. I hope he will be fit between now and and the end of the year and if he is we will try to sign him."

The French midfielder has been out of football since being handed a six-month ban by FIFA in Fabruary 2018, after he was discovered to have received an intravenous drip in breach of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s rules.

At the beginning of the current season Nasri's ban was extended by an additional 12 months following an appeal by UEFA's ethics and disciplinary inspector - although his ban is due to end in January 2019 as it was backdated to July 2017.

* There was no fresh news regarding Declan Rice's contract situation - despite Pellegrini insisting that the teenager was a vital member of his squad.

"Declan is a very important player for us in this moment," added the Hammers boss. "I think he will continue improving as a player because he is very young and always wants to learn more.

"His agent is talking with the owners and I hope they reach an agreement soon, but I cannot say when it will happen."
