Spanish tug-of-war for Hernandez

West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war involving at least two La Liga clubs, according to reports from Spain today.

The Mexican international, who is also said to have spurned an opportunity to join Serie A's Inter in recent weeks is being sought by both Valencia and Levante just 24 hours before the winter transfer window opens for business.

And according to respected Catalan outlet El Mundo Deportivo, the €20million-rated Hernandez will make a decision over his future within the next few days.

Hernandez joined West Ham two years ago from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, but has failed to secure a first team spot under any of the three managers - Bilic, Moyes and Pellegrini - for whom he has worked.

Levante, who are based in Valencia have regularly flirted with relegation over the last 20 years. Indeed they have been relegated to the second tier of Spanish football three times during that period but returned to La Liga last summer.

Meanwhile neighbours Valencia are based at the Mestalla, which with a capacity of 55,000 is twice the size of Levante's Estadi Ciutat de València.

Despite the vast difference in size and historical success between the two clubs, both have currently earned 22 points from their opening 17 games of the 2018/19 campaign although Valencia are currently two places above Levante thanks to a superior goal difference.

According to additional sources, both Real Betis and Seville are also keeping tabs on Hernandez's situation.
