Samir Nasri will be given the opportunity to land an extended contract at West Ham should he impress sufficiently before the end of the current season.

Free agent Nasri is set to become a Hammer imminently after agreeing to join the club on a short-term contract that will see him through until the end of the current campaign.

However the former Manchester City and Arsenal star will also have a chance to extend his stay at the club by having the option of a two-year extension added to the arrangement, which can be triggered should he prove successful between now and May.

The 31-year-old has been out of football since being handed a six-month ban by FIFA in February, after he was discovered to have ingested a chemical concoction in breach of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s rules.

At the beginning of the current season Nasri's ban was extended by an additional 12 months following an appeal by UEFA's ethics and disciplinary inspector - although his ban is due to expire at the end of December as it was backdated to July 2017.

Nasri could make his West Ham debut as early as this weekend against Birmingham City, having spent the last eight weeks regaining his fitness with his own dedicated 'pre-season' programme.
