Moyes back in demand

Filed: Friday, 4th January 2019
By: Staff Writer

Former temporary Hammers boss David Moyes is being lined up for a return to management - nine months after leaving his post at West Ham.

Struggling Stoke City, who are on the verge of replacing Gary Rowett as manager have highlighted Moyes as their number one candidate to succeed the former Derby boss.

Rowett, who joined the Potters last summer is reported to be on the verge of being dismissed having led Stoke, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, to 12th in the Championship some eight points shy of the top six.

55-year-old Moyes has been out of work since his temporary contract with West Ham ended last May, after he successfully guided the club away from relegation.

Stoke - who were keen on signing Moyes before he moved to West Ham - are said to be considering replacing Rowett following a dip in form that resulted in just one win from five matches played during the Christmas period.

Should the Scot prove to be uninterested in the role, Stoke have identified another former West Ham boss - Sam Allardyce - as an alternative candidate.
