Agent's influence under scrutiny

Filed: Tuesday, 8th January 2019

The "growing influence" of one particular football agent at West Ham should be cause for concern, say the Daily Mail.

A story in today's edition of the newspaper highlights the ascendancy of agent Will Salthouse, who runs the Unique Sports Management agency in conjunction with fellow agents Marlon Fleischman and Barry Whelan.

The Mail reveal how USM recently became sponsors of West Ham's Women's team whilst Salthouse - who is cited as a personal friend of the Sullivan family - personally represents several of West Ham's first team players.

This, claims the Mail, could lead to a potential conflict of interest - with one unnamed agent quoted as saying that the relationship between Salthouse and West Ham "just feels a bit too cosy".

USM - who have 145 clients including Harry Kane and Wilfred Zaha - became involved with the Women's team at the behest of Jack Sullivan, the team's Managing Director, say the Mail.

West Ham are reported to have signed at least one USM player last summer. Neither the club or Salthouse, who is said to have been spotted on numerous occasions in the Directors Box at the Olympic Stadium - responded to requests from the newspaper for comment.
