Collins set for Ipswich u-turn

Former Hammer James Collins is on the verge of completing a free transfer move to Ipswich Town.

The Suffolk club are currently bottom of the Championship following a dreadful first half of the season.

However their chances of survival were given a major boost today when Collins agreed to join the Tractor Boys on a short-term contract - just a matter of weeks after he tore up a contract with Aston Villa.

The former Welsh international signed a short-term contract with the Villains last month before pulling up with a calf injury during his first training session with his new club.

Consequently Collins agreed to a mutual termination of the Villa contract - a response that drew praise from many quarters.

And now, just three weeks later, KUMB has learned that Collins is set to turn his back on Villa in order to sign for Ipswich - who, ironically perhaps, he trained with prior to joining the Midlands club.

Collins was initially offered a contract by Ipswich in September, but the deal was rejected. Speaking at the time, Town boss Paul Hurst said that he was disappointed at being unable to secure the defender's signature.

"Iíve been made aware he wonít be signing for Ipswich Town," said Hurst. "Iím surprised weíve not seen anything in the press in some shape or form. I had a message from James and that deal is dead and buried now."
