Manuel Pellegrini insists that both he and West Ham will be taking the FA Cup seriously this season.

The FA Cup, England's premier cup tournament holds a special place in the hearts of West Ham fans. Participants in the first ever Wembley final 96 years ago, thrice winners in 1964, 1975 and 1980 plus runners-up in 2006, West Ham have a fine pedigree in the competition.

Sadly for supporters, some recent managers may not have have given the Cup the respect it perhaps deserves - whilst recent seasons have seen (yet more) embarrassing defeats at the hands of lower league sides such as Nottingham Forest and Wigan Athletic.

However Pellegrini insists that Saturday's trip to Wimbledon

"When you start a competition all teams must have that winning mentality and think they can win it," he said. "I remember the year before I joined Manchetser City, Wigan won the Cup but were relegated to the Championship.

"It's just one game so anything can happen - and our intention is to continue as far as we can."
